Onboard our vessels we utilize stability computers to conduct our normal stability calculations. Every month we were required to complete a manual check to ensure that the output from the stability computer was still accurate. I was able to take the manual entries from our standalone stability computer and export them into a format that was able to be read by excel. I then utilized formulas within excel to utilize this data to make sure that the stability computer and our manual spreadsheet were outputting the same information.
This took a task that took between one and two hours and required a very large amount of manul entry and automated it to be more accurate and less time consuming. The monthly stability checks could now be completed within five minutes and there was not concern over the accuracy of the numbers in the system.
